This part of the lab is presented as a Hands-on Labs Interactive Simulation. This will allow you to experience steps which are too time-consuming or resource intensive to do live in the lab environment. In this simulation, you can use the software interface as if you are interacting with a live environment.

The orange boxes show where to click, and the left and right arrow keys can also be used to move through the simulation in either direction.

As a first step let us use the VIO user interface to login to the VIM that would manage the VNFs.

The Lab start at the Launch the Login Window

  1. Click username, and type vmware as the username.
  2. Click password, and type VMware1! as the password.
  3. Click Connect.

Selecting VNF to Deploy

Once successfully logged in, the VIO Projects page appears with the list of projects that already exist in the environment. What we now need to is Orchestrate a sequence of steps, using an OpenStack heat template that has all of the vIMS and vSBC VNF VM configuration detail and entity relationships mapping. To help us in doing this let use 'Stacks' under Orchestration.

  1. Click Stacks.
  2. Click Launch Stack at the top right corner.
  3. Click Choose File to select the Heat template source file to be selected for VNF deployment.
  4. Click the Metaswitch-HEAT.yml file.

Deploy VNF Template

This does the basic deployment of the various VNFs in the vIMS solution.  You will also notice that next to the “choose file” button you see  “MetaSwitch-HEAT.yml, this is the template that will be used for deployment

  1. Click Open.
  2. Click Next.

Create a New Stack

This will launch the Stack window that helps you to create a new stack based on the values provided in the template.

  1. Click Stack Name.
  2. Type MetaSwitch.
  3. Click the password box and enter the password for user vmware as VMware1!.
  4. Click the scrollbar to see the ‘Launch’ button at the bottom right corner.
  5. Click Launch.

Creation Complete

The VIO server will start to process the template file information. Once completed, you will see the Stack name “MetaSwitch” appear in the list of Stacks with a status of 'create complete'.This process completes the vIMS and vSBC VNF deployment.  The VNFs can now be Managed from the VIO web client.
