Installation of vRealize Operations

This part of the lab is presented as a Hands-on Labs Interactive Simulation. This will allow you to experience steps which are too time-consuming or resource intensive to do live in the lab environment. In this simulation, you can use the software interface as if you are interacting with a live environment.

The orange boxes show where to click, and the left and right arrow keys can also be used to move through the simulation in either direction.

We begin at the SDDC Manager Dashboard:

Cloud Foundation, leveraging the advanced automation capabilities of the VMware SDDC Manager, vastly simplifies the task of deploying and operating a modern software-defined data center.   This includes making it easy to deploy vRealize Operations inside your private cloud.

To install vRealize Operations, from the SDDC Manager Dashboard:

  1. Click SETTINGS
  2. Click VREALIZE
  3. Click vREALIZE OPERATIONS
  4. Click Deploy vRealize Operations
    • Here we provide details about the vR Ops deployment.  SDDC Manager deploys vRealize Operations in accordance with the VMware Validate Design which includes deploying an NSX Edge Service Gateway to load balance connections.
    • Note, in this simulation the vR Ops License Key has already been entered for us.
  5. Click the High Availability checkbox to enable HA
    • We'll accept the default Node Size setting of Medium
  6. Click the Node Count drop down and select 3
    • That's it, we're now ready to deploy vRealize Operations
  7. Click SUBMIT
    • The SDDC manager will kick off a workflow to deploy vRealize Operations.  We can monitor the progress of the workflow by selecting the In-Progress link.
  8. Click the In-Progress link
    • Here we see the "Bringup Deploy vROps" workflow is RUNNING.  There are 22 total subtasks in the workflow.  We can expand the workflow to view the associated subtasks.
  9. Click to expand the Bringup Deploy vROPs workflow
  10. Click the scroll bar to scroll down
  11. Click View Sub Tasks
  12. Click the scroll bar to scroll down
    • We can monitor the progress of the tasks being executed by SDDC Manager as it deploys the vRealize Operation.  SDDC Manager begins by deploying the NSX Edge Service Gateway and then it deploys the vRealize Suite Lifecycle Management appliance which it will use to deploy vRealize Operations.
  13. Click the scroll bar two times to scroll down and review the subtasks.
  14. Click the scroll bar to scroll back to the top of the page
    • We can see that all the automated steps have been successfully completed.
    • With the installation complete, we return to the VREALIZE page
  15. Click on Settings
  16. Click on VREALIZE
  17. Click on VREALIZE OPERATIONS
    • We see a summary of the vRealize Operations deployment along with a link to the UI
  18. Click on the Link to open vRealize Operations
    • Clicking the link, we are connected to the vRealize Operations Manager UI where we can login to complete the setup and begin to monitor our Cloud Foundation workload domains.
    • The username and password have been provided for us in the simulation.
  19. Click LOG IN
  20. Click NEXT
  21. Click to Accept the EULA
  22. Click NEXT
  23. Click NEXT, Since we have already entered a License key for you
  24. Click NEXT when asked to join the Customer Experience Improvement Program
  25. Click FINISH
    • We are now brought to the Administration Dashboard, Where we can see that the SDDC manager has already connected the vSphere and vSAN into the vROPs environment, as they are both receiving data.
    • We will now complete a quick tour to show that vROPs is connected to our VMware Cloud Foundation installation
  26. Click on Environment
  27. Click vSphere Hosts and Clusters
  28. Click vSphere World
  29. Click VC Adapter Instance
  30. Click vRack-Datacenter
  31. Click vRack-Cluster
    • You can now see that under the vRack Cluster the components of the Management cluster in Cloud Foundation
  32. Click More
  33. Click Analysis
    • You can see from here that the Management cluster is in good working order and has no issues.
  34. Click the VMware Cloud Foundation browser tab
  35. Click on the dashboard

This concludes our demonstration on how to leverage the advanced automation capabilities of the VMware SDDC Manager, together with the vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager, to quickly and easily deploy vRealize Operations in VMware Cloud Foundation.
