This portion of the lab is presented as a Hands-on Labs Interactive Simulation. This simulation will enable you to navigate the software interface as if you are interacting with a live environment.
The orange boxes show where to click, and you can also use the left and right arrow keys to move through the simulation in either direction.
Access the Horizon Cloud Administration Console to perform the initial setup of the Horizon Cloud tenant. The browser is already pointed to the console. Normally to access the console, browse to the URL sent to you from VMware when service is initiated.
Note: For lab purposes we are utilizing self-signed certs, which is why the browser is reporting the connection is not secured. This is not the case in a production environment. Customers exchange live certificates as a part of the Horizon Cloud deployment process.
The one-time user name and password have been entered for you. This account is only utilized for the initial configuration process. Once Horizon Cloud is added to an Active Directory domain, the provided account credentials will no longer allow you to access the tenant.
The Horizon Cloud Administration Console defaults to the Getting Started page on the first login. This page provides you with a step-by-step overview of the initial configuration process that must be completed. The first step is configuring Active Directory. You need to register your Active Directory domain in the Tenant before you can allocate services or assign specific roles and permissions.
An LDAP bind account is required for the initial LDAP bind/query. This account can be Read Only.
NETBIOS Name: DF
DNS Domain Name: df.local
Bind Username: dbind
Bind Password: VMware1!
Join Username: djoin
Join Password: VMware1!
Primary DNS Server IP: 10.10.10.10
Secondary DNS Server IP: 10.10.10.10
Once you have bound your Horizon Cloud tenant to a directory, define the domain user or group that will have full administrative control within the tenant. This role is defined as Super-Administrator within Horizon Cloud.
The Tenant Admins Group appears below the search box.
DF\Tenat Admins should now appear under Selected User Group
The Horizon Cloud Administration Console is prompting for a new login. You will now have to login to the console with an Active Directory account. In this case, a user account that is part of the Tenant Admins Group we just choose.
username: hcadmin
password: VMware1!
By default, subscription to the Customer Experience Improvement Program is enabled. The CEIP provides VMware with diagnostic and usage information to improve Horizon Cloud. The information sent does not personally identify any individual. For the purposes of this lab, we will change our membership to the program to NO.
Under Settings there are several controls to manage the tenant. We will now begin to explore these options to access settings:
1. Click Settings
In the general settings section, you can view and modify information, including the client's session timeout, how HTML Access in handled, as well as contact information. In this case are going to add Admin contact information.
Name: VMware Admin
Phone: 1-800-888-8888
Email: VMware@VMware.com
The Active Directory window is where you would go if you needed to change your Active Directory Settings. To navigate there:
1. Click Settings
2. Click Active Directory
You can then click edit, and make any modifications that may be required. We do not need to make any Active Directory changes now.
There are two built-in roles provided in the Horizon Cloud environment. The first one is the Super-Administrator. This role has access to all all functionality and can save changes. You also have the Demo-Administrator. This role also has access to all the functionality but does not have the ability to save changes. To assign or modify membership to these roles perform the following task.
We are now going to add a domain group to the Demo Administrator role
You can setup file shares in Horizon Cloud, that will be used to import data into Horizon Cloud from your environment. These file shares are called Locations. One use case for a location is to store the most up to date Horizon and DaaS agent files for your desktops. In this lab we are going to set up this type of location which intended for agent updates. To add a new location:
Name: Agents
Domain: Confirm DF is listed
Username: administrator
Password: VMware1!
Type: confirm Agents is selected
Source Path: \\HZA-HOL-FS01.df.local\AGENTS
The default view when you log into Horizon Cloud is the Getting Started page. You can also choose to have the Dashboard as your default page instead of the Getting Started page. The dashboard page provides an array of information including notifications, activities, reports, and general environmental conditions. To set the Dashboard page to start every time you login:
This will now be your default view when you login to the Horizon Cloud. If at any point in time in your production environment you wish to change your default screen back to the Startup Wizard, simply go to Setting and Select Getting Started. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and change NO to YES
Note: We have not configured any desktops or applications yet so all Dashboard items are at zero. We will explore the dashboard further in the later modules.
