  12. Next we select the size of the Appliance. Click the Configuration drop down.
  13. Click Small. The Small appliance is generally suitable for installations up to 2,000 VMs. However we recommend checking the latest sizing guidelines on vmware.com during prerequisite checks.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Now we need to choose on which cluster we want to install the vROps appliance. Click Cluster Site A.
  16. Click Next.
  17. Next we need to select a datastore with sufficient capacity. Refer to the latest sizing guidelines for more detail. Thick or thin provisioning can be used. In this lab, we have limited storage so only thin provisioning is available to us. Click the Select virtual disk format, and the VM Storage Policy dropdowns to view the options.
  18. Click Next.
  19. Next we need to connect the virtual appliance's NIC to the Mangement network. Under Destination, click VM Network and select Management Network.
  20. Click Next.

The final step is to customize the template.

  1. Click Etc/UTC in the Timezone setting dropdown. Choose the default of Etc/UTC.
  2. Click on the Scroll Bar to view all the networking details.
  3. Enter the following details in the Networking Properties boxes:
    Default Gateway 192.168.110.1
    DNS 192.168.110.10
    Network 1 IP Address 192.168.110.40
    Network 1 Netmask 255.255.255.0
  4. Click Next to continue
  5. Click the Power on after deployment checkbox
  6. Review the settings then click Finish.

The vRealize Operations Manager appliance will now be deployed and will power on. Progress is shown in the Recent Tasks window and once complete the VM will appear in the Inventory.

Note: This demo runs faster than real-time. In a real environment it will usually take 5-10 minutes depending on size and the storage supporting the appliance.

vRealize Operations Manager Initial Setup

Once deployed, we should monitor it power on for the first time.

  1. Click the vRealize Operations Manager VM in the vSphere Web Client.
  2. Click Launch Remote Console. Watch the deployment until the Welcome screen comes up that advises you of the URLs to go to connect to the appliance. Note: in this lab demo we have sped this up it will usually take 15-20 minutes for this first power on as it build vROps. It will pause for a long time at about 75% complete -you just need to be patient, it will complete!
  3. Click the X in the top right corner of the Console screen to close the remote console window.
  4. Now we need to connect to vROps in the web browser. Type 192.168.100.40 as the URL (it will redirect to full https url).
  5. Click on the 192.168.110.40 URL listed in the dropdown list.
  6. At this point the certificates have not been uploaded so a standard 'untrusted connection' error message appears.
